Welcome Message from the CELF Jasper Research Seminar Chair
On behalf of the Canadian Energy Law Foundation (CELF), we are pleased to invite you to the 65th annual Jasper Research Seminar, taking place in Jasper, Alberta from June 17–20, 2026. The Jasper Research Seminar continues to be a leading forum for energy law in Canada, bringing together practitioners from across the industry to examine both long‑standing and emerging legal developments. It also provides an important opportunity for meaningful connection and collaboration within the Canadian energy bar.
The Canadian energy industry is undergoing significant transformation, driven by evolving economic realities, policy developments, and societal expectations. This year’s organizing committee has developed a thoughtfully curated agenda highlighting key issues of importance to corporate legal teams and private practice alike. The 2026 Seminar program will feature the following papers and presentations: Shifting Winds: The Emerging Legal and Regulatory Regime for Offshore Renewable Energy; Reverse Vesting Orders and their Impact on Transactions Conducted Through Oil & Gas Insolvency Proceedings; From Gridlock to Greenlight: The New Blueprint for Getting Major Projects Built in Canada; Data Centre Integration and the Protection of Ratepayers – Can Alberta Balance These Goals?; Powering the Prairie Province: Regulatory Pathways and Project Development for Small Nuclear Reactors in Saskatchewan; From Energy Idealism to Energy Realism: The Canada–Alberta MOU and the New Global Paradigm in Energy and Climate Policy; Aboriginal Title, Private Property, and the Law of Declaratory Relief. As always, the seminar will also include the important and popular annual reviews of both case law and regulatory and legislative developments relevant to energy law practitioners.
On Wednesday evening, following arrival in Jasper, delegates and their guests are invited to join us at the annual President’s Reception. On Thursday evening, we will host a wonderful family-friendly social event, promising great food, and a fun atmosphere. On Friday evening, our much‑anticipated gala celebration returns. Separate children’s activities will be offered on Friday evening.
We are delighted that the Texas Scramble golf tournament will return this year as Thursday afternoon’s optional activity. On Friday afternoon, delegates may once again enjoy the gondola excursion, relax at the spa, or explore the many amenities and businesses in the town of Jasper. And of course, the late-night hospitality suite will be open for those wishing to continue networking into the early hours.
We encourage you to take advantage of the opportunity to bring your family to enjoy the Jasper Seminar. We are pleased to once again host the Kids’ Pool Party on both Thursday and Friday afternoons on the pool deck at the Jasper Park Lodge, complete with music, snacks, drinks for the adults, and plenty of fun.
We look forward to connecting with you in Jasper this June!
