President's Message
CELF has a new name, new logo, and new website, but our commitment to legal scholarship and raising the standards in the administration and practice of energy law remain the same. I am excited to introduce you to our new look. The change in name - from “Petroleum” to “Energy” - reflects the ongoing convergence of energy sources, emerging energy technologies, and the legal challenges they share.
Our logo, using a graphic three-barred E, showcases the Foundation's mission and expanded mandate. Our overarching theme of threes – the bars of the "E", the stacked name and the tagline (Engage-Educate-Energize) – all convey the dynamic and interconnected nature of the relationship with the energy industry and among its stakeholders, the Foundation itself, and its members.
This theme also reflects our past, present and future – respect for our heritage, a recognition of current trends in the energy industry and legal environment, and the challenges yet to come. This is the principal reason for our decision to expand the scope of the Foundation, and the driver for our next phase. Starting this year, we will begin broadening the scope of our Seminars and support for scholastic achievement to include issues common to all energy sources including matters of particular interest to the non-hydrocarbon sector.
Membership is easy, modest, and we believe you will find it worthwhile. I look forward to your participation in the Foundation and meeting with you at one of the three Seminars we are holding this year.
Welcome to the Foundation, and our new look!
J. David Brett
